Local SEO services in Murfreesboro: what they include, what they cost, and how to choose

Most people who call about local SEO services describe the same problem in different words. They are not showing up on Google Maps. A competitor two miles away is. Or they paid somebody for six months and cannot say what they got for the money.

This page explains what local SEO services actually are, what the work looks like month to month, what Boro Digital charges for it, and how to tell the difference between someone doing the work and someone sending you a report.

The prices here are the same prices on the services page. You will know what it costs before you call.

What “local SEO” means for a business in Rutherford County

Regular SEO is about ranking for a search anywhere in the country. Local SEO is about ranking for a search that has a place attached to it, whether the person typed the place or not.

When someone in Smyrna searches “plumber near me,” Google does not show the best plumber in America. It shows three plumbers on a map, then a list of websites below that. Where you land on that map and in that list is what local SEO services are trying to move.

Two things decide it. Your Google Business Profile, which is the listing that feeds the map. And your website, which is what Google reads to figure out what you do, where you do it, and whether to trust you.

Everything that follows is about those two things.

What local SEO services actually include

Anyone selling local SEO should be able to tell you exactly what they do each month. Here is what the work is. If a proposal does not cover most of these, ask why.

1. Google Business Profile management. Your categories, your service area, your hours, your photos, your services list, your posts. This is the single biggest lever for a local business and the one most often left half-finished. A profile that was set up once in 2021 and never touched is not “done.” It is losing to profiles that are.

2. Location and service pages on your website. If you serve Murfreesboro, Smyrna, La Vergne, and Woodbury, Google needs a page that says so, for each one, in real words. Not the same paragraph with the town name swapped. A page that would actually be useful to someone in that town.

3. Consistent name, address, and phone number everywhere. Your business is listed on dozens of directories you never signed up for: Yelp, Apple Maps, Bing, the Better Business Bureau, data brokers that feed the others. When your phone number is different on four of them, Google trusts all of them a little less. Cleaning that up is slow, unglamorous, and part of the job.

4. Reviews. Not buying them. Not writing them. Building a habit of asking every finished customer, making it a one-tap link, and answering every review you get, including the bad ones. Reviews factor into the map ranking, and they matter even more to the person deciding whether to call you.

5. Content that answers local questions. The questions your customers actually ask. “How much does a new HVAC unit cost in Tennessee?” “Do I need a permit to build a deck in Rutherford County?” A page that answers one of those honestly earns visits nobody else in town is competing for.

6. Technical basics. The site loads fast on a phone. Every page has a real title. Google can crawl it. Your address and hours are marked up so Google can read them as data, not just text. None of this is exciting. All of it is the floor.

That is the list. There are a hundred smaller tasks inside it, but if a monthly plan cannot be mapped back to those six things, you should ask what you are paying for.

Local SEO consultant, marketing agency, or do it yourself?

This is the real decision, and most people never get it framed honestly. So here it is.

Do it yourself

Everything above can be done by an owner with patience and a free evening a week. Google Business Profile is free. Search Console is free. Asking for reviews is free.

What it costs is hours, and the learning curve on the parts that break. Most owners get the profile set up, publish two posts, and stop. That is not a character flaw. It is what happens when the thing that makes you money competes with the thing that markets it.

If you have the time and want to do it yourself, start with the Google Business Profile guide (guide coming soon) and the Maps troubleshooting article (guide coming soon). Both are free and neither one asks you to call anybody.

A local SEO consultant

A local SEO consultant is usually one person. You talk to the person doing the work. There is no account manager translating between you and someone you will never meet.

The trade-off is capacity. One person can only hold so many clients, which is why a good consultant will sometimes tell you no, or tell you to wait. The upside is that the person who quoted the job is the person doing the job, and they know your account cold.

That is what Boro Digital is. One person, in Murfreesboro, doing the work.

A digital marketing agency near you

When you search “digital marketing agency near me,” you get a list of companies that do a lot of things: web design, SEO, paid ads, social media, video, branding. Some are good. Several here in Murfreesboro are.

An agency gives you more hands and more services under one roof. It also usually gives you a contract, a monthly minimum, and a layer of people between you and the work. For a business spending a few thousand a month on marketing, that layer is worth it. For a business spending a few hundred, it is mostly what you are paying for.

Five questions to ask whoever you are considering

Ask these on the first call. The answers tell you more than any portfolio.

  1. Who owns the domain, the hosting, and the Google Business Profile when we’re done? The only acceptable answer is “you do.” If they register your domain in their name, you are renting your own business.
  2. What exactly gets done each month? Not “optimization.” A list. Pages, posts, listings, hours.
  3. What does it cost? In numbers, before the call ends. If you cannot get a price without a “discovery session,” the price depends on what they think you will pay.
  4. Am I locked in? A contract that runs twelve months is protecting them, not you.
  5. Can I log in? You should be able to see your own Search Console, your own Business Profile, and your own analytics at any time. If you cannot, that is a red flag, not a policy.

Boro Digital’s answers: you own it all, the monthly list is published below, the price is published below, there are no contracts, and you get every login at launch.

What local SEO services cost at Boro Digital

These are the flat prices. They are on the services page and they do not change based on who is asking.

PlanMonthlyWhat gets done
Tune$350Keyword map for your area, 3 pages optimized each month, directory consistency, Search Console monitoring, 15 keywords tracked
Climb$650Keyword map, 6 pages optimized each month, directory consistency, Search Console monitoring, 30 keywords tracked, one article a month, one competitor tracked, a quarterly 30-minute call
Push$1,1006 pages optimized each month, 50 keywords tracked, two articles a month, three competitors tracked, two local mention outreach efforts a month, a monthly conversion review, and a monthly 30-minute call

Not sure where to start? A Site & Search Audit is $500, one time. You get a written report of what is broken, what is missing, and what to do first. If you hire Boro Digital afterward, the audit becomes the first month’s plan. If you don’t, you still have the plan.

If your Google Business Profile is suspended, none of the above applies yet. That is a different problem. GBP Rescue is $450 total: $225 to start after a free diagnosis call, and the other $225 only if the profile is reinstated. Nobody can guarantee Google reinstates a profile. Anyone who does is lying. What is guaranteed is the work.

If you want the website looked after too, the care plans start at $150 a month for managed hosting, software updates, backups, and small text and photo changes. The Grow plan at $275 a month adds Business Profile management, weekly posts, review tools, and a monthly plain-English report.

No contracts on any of it. Cancel any month.

Your website is doing half the job

Here is the thing people miss when they search “local SEO services” one week and “web design near me” the next. Those are not two problems. They are one problem, and solving them separately is how you end up paying twice.

Google’s map pulls trust from your website. A profile pointed at a site with no service pages, no town pages, a six-second load time, and a contact form nobody tested is a profile Google has little reason to rank, no matter how many posts you publish.

It works the other way too. A well-built site with a neglected profile is a nice brochure nobody can find.

Every Boro Digital website build includes the local SEO foundation so you are not buying it twice:

  • Starter, $1,500. Five pages, a proven layout, contact form and click-to-call, basic local SEO, Business Profile connected.
  • Business, $2,500. Everything in Starter plus up to eight pages, custom design, help with the copy, and the full local SEO foundation.
  • Growth, $3,500. Everything in Business plus a page for every town you serve, a review system with a link and QR code, analytics with a launch report, and 30 days of tweaks after launch.

The domain and hosting are registered in your name and billed at cost. They usually run about $150 to $300 a year. That money goes to the registrar and the host, not to Boro Digital, and every password is yours at launch.

If you already have a site you like, none of this is required. The SEO plans work on an existing site. But if the site is the problem, no amount of monthly SEO fixes it, and Boro Digital will tell you that in the audit rather than bill you for a year to find out.

The tools that actually matter

People ask about the best local SEO tools as if the right software is the secret. It is not. Most of the work is done in two free dashboards. But since it comes up on nearly every call, here is the honest list.

Google Business Profile. Free. This is the tool. Everything else is measuring it.

Google Search Console. Free. It shows which searches bring people to your site, which pages Google has indexed, and what is broken. If your current provider has never given you access to it, ask why.

Google Analytics. Free. It tells you what visitors do after they land. Useful, but for most small local businesses, Search Console and the Business Profile insights answer the questions that matter.

A rank tracker. Paid. This is what checks where you show up for a set of searches, from a specific location, every week. Boro Digital tracks 15, 30, or 50 keywords depending on the plan. Which product does it matters less than the fact that it is checked from Murfreesboro and not from a server somewhere else.

A citation tool. Paid. Used to find and fix the wrong phone numbers and old addresses across the directories. It can be done by hand. It rarely is.

A note on Yoast Local SEO

Every site Boro Digital builds runs on WordPress, so this one comes up a lot. The free Yoast SEO plugin handles titles, descriptions, and sitemaps. Yoast Local SEO is a paid add-on that does three specific things: it turns your address and hours into structured data Google can read, it builds a location page for each place you operate if you have more than one, and it adds your locations to a sitemap Maps can use.

Is it worth it? For a single-location business, the same structured data can be added by hand, and Boro Digital does that as part of every build. For a business with three or four locations that wants to manage them from one dashboard, it saves real time. It does not make you rank. It makes you readable. Those are different things, and anyone telling you a plugin is the missing piece is selling the plugin.

Does this work for my kind of business?

Local SEO services work for any business whose customers are near it. The mechanics are the same for a roofer and a dentist. What changes is how many other people in your category are actively doing the work.

Home-service contractors — HVAC, plumbing, roofing, lawn care, landscaping — are where local SEO does the most, fastest. Many run from home and are not sure they can have a Business Profile at all. They can. (guide coming soon) Look at the profiles of the three contractors above you on the map. Count the posts. Check the photo dates. The bar is often lower than it looks.

Dentists, med spas, and health practices compete harder on reviews and on the look of the website. The work is the same. The bar is higher.

Local SEO for lawyers deserves its own honest paragraph, because it is one of the most common versions of this question and the answer is not the same as for a plumber. Legal is one of the most competitive local categories in any market, and Murfreesboro is not an exception. The work is identical: Business Profile, practice-area pages, reviews, content. But a solo practice should go in expecting a longer road and a real budget, and should be suspicious of anyone who says otherwise. Boro Digital will take that call and say plainly whether the plan and the budget match the competition.

Nonprofits and churches benefit from the same work and usually have the least time for it. The Business Profile alone is often the whole battle.

If your category is not listed, the answer is almost certainly still yes. Call and ask.

What local SEO services cannot do

This is the part most pages leave out, and it is the part that decides whether you are happy in six months.

  • Nobody can guarantee a map ranking. Not Boro Digital, not anyone. Google does not sell those positions and does not publish the rules. Anyone promising a spot in the top three is guessing with your money.
  • It cannot make up for a bad website. See above. If the site is the problem, the site is the first job.
  • It cannot create reviews. It can make asking easy. The asking is still yours.
  • It cannot fix a business problem. If the phone rings and nobody answers, ranking higher just means more people hear the voicemail.
  • It is not instant, and it is not permanent. The work compounds while it is being done. It does not compound while it is not. Stopping is fine, and there is no contract that says you cannot. Just know what stopping means.

How to start

One step. Text or call 615-580-0699 and say what you searched for when you found this page. Or email trey.surles@borodigital.com.

The first conversation is free. You will hang up knowing whether your profile is healthy, whether your site is helping or hurting, and exactly what it would cost to fix, in numbers you have already seen on this page.

If the honest answer is that you do not need to hire anyone yet, you will hear that too.

Questions people ask before they call

What is the difference between SEO and local SEO?
Regular SEO tries to rank a page for anyone, anywhere. Local SEO tries to rank a business for people nearby. In practice, the difference is that local SEO runs on the Google Business Profile as much as the website, and reviews and a consistent address matter far more.

How much do local SEO services cost in Murfreesboro?
At Boro Digital, $350, $650, or $1,100 a month depending on how much gets done each month, with no contract. A one-time audit is $500. Most other providers in the area do not publish prices, so the honest answer for them is “ask.”

Do I need a local SEO consultant if I already have a Google Business Profile?
Not necessarily. If the profile is complete, gets regular posts and photos, has recent reviews, and you show up when you search your business name and your main service in your town, you may be fine. If any of those is not true, that is where a consultant earns the fee.

Can you help if my Google Business Profile is suspended?
Yes. That is GBP Rescue: $450 total, half to start and half only on reinstatement, after a free diagnosis call. Nobody can guarantee Google reinstates a profile.

Do I need a new website to do local SEO?
No. The monthly plans work on the site you have. If the site itself is the problem, the audit will say so, and you decide what to do about it.

Do you work outside Murfreesboro?
Yes. Boro Digital works with businesses across Rutherford County and the surrounding counties, including Cannon, Coffee, Warren, Williamson, and Putnam. Most of the work happens over the phone and online. Meeting in person is easy anywhere close.

Is Yoast Local SEO enough on its own?
No. It makes your address and hours machine-readable and helps with multiple locations. It does not manage your Business Profile, earn reviews, or write your pages. It is a wrench, not a mechanic.

How long does local SEO take to work?
Nobody honest gives you a number here. It depends on how far behind the profile and the site are and how much your competitors are doing. What you get instead of a promise is a monthly report of what was done and what moved, and the right to stop any month.
